Lulu Sotelo

Lulu Sotelo is greatly influenced by her upbringing in Mexico City. This source of inspiration combined with her effervescent personality is evident in her use of color and imagery. In a recent series of dolls, wood and ceramic sculptures based on the colorful characters of her favorite Mexican sitcom, “El Chavo del Ocho” (The Kid From Number 8), Lulu does not copy the characters directly but makes her own interpretation of them, sometimes playing out episodes with her dolls. Unable to visit Mexico since she migrated to the U.S., creating these dolls gives Lulu the chance to feel closer to her culture.
