We are pleased to announce the availability of rug/tapestries in a variety of imaginative and expressive designs following the tradition of the "outsider" artist.

These colorful, beautifully crafted rugs are designed and hand hooked by artists with disabilities in the Creative Growth art studio.

Based on the success of a 1982 pilot project, the San Francisco Foundation helped establish a rug/tapestry supported work project at Creative Growth in 1987.

Working with monk's cloth and acrylic and wool yarns, Creative Growth artists began designing and producing rugs in the newly set up rug/tapestry art workshop. These art pieces have received much critical and popular acclaim and have been featured in the ELLE Decor, the San Francisco Chronicle, Northern California Home & Gardens, California Magazine, and Alaska Airlines Magazine.

These rug/tapestries feature a rich variety of imaginative and charming designs suitable for a wide range of home styles and environments. Styles range from modern to folk/naive to traditional. These artists' views of the world are distinctive; their themes include animals ("Brut Beasts"), figures, landscapes, abstracts, and whimsical and unusual scenes of sports, mythology and wildlife.

The rugs are professionally executed by trained craftspeople and are suitable for wall or floor decoration. Hundreds of designs are available and specially commissioned pieces can be arranged by contacting our gallery. These beautiful and exciting art pieces, bursting with color and originality, make an excellent gift for the discriminating buyer and enchanting decorations for home or office.
