9th Annual Beyond Trend Runway Event + Fundraiser
Saturday, April 27, 2019, at 4pm at Oakland Scottish Rite Center
Creative Growth Art Center presents Beyond Trend, a runway event and fundraiser celebrating the Oakland-based nonprofit studio for artists with disabilities. This much-anticipated annual event provides critical annual support to Creative Growth’s community of over 150 artists. At this year’s event, Creative Growth will be honoring longtime supporter, collector, and friend David Byrne.
Creative Growth is a leader in the field of arts and disabilities, establishing a model for a creative community guided by the principle that all people gain fulfillment from the arts and are capable of producing work of great cultural merit. Facilitated by professional artists, the studio provides artistic support, museum-quality materials, and space to create painting, drawing, ceramics, woodworking, fiber arts, printmaking, and digital media. The gallery exhibits and represents artwork created by artists at Creative Growth, securing a place for their work in major collections and institutions while cultivating worldwide renown.
Beyond Trend is a celebratory fashion performance featuring wearable art created and modeled by Creative Growth artists, bringing the energy of the studio to the historic theater at the Oakland Scottish Rite Center. Immediately following the show, a Pop-Up shop opens, giving everyone the opportunity to take home looks direct from the runway. Dinner following the Pop-Up is a VIP experience at Lake Chalet, across from the Scottish Rite. Guests will enjoy an intimate dinner and live music al fresco on Lake Merritt. Throughout the event, Bay Area culinary icons, including Cal Peternell, Henry’s, Tartine, Nokni, Ramen Shop, Humphrey Slocombe, and The Kon-Tiki will provide goodies for all guests to enjoy while celebrating Creative Growth.
The Beyond Trend Host Committee includes Kim Hastreiter, co-founder of Paper magazine; Todd Waterbury, Target’s Chief Creative Officer; and Caroline Wanga, Target’s Chief Diversity Officer. Creative Growth is grateful for the support of Presenting Sponsor Target; Gold Sponsor Method; and Silver Sponsors Levi’s and Tidewater Capital and EJF Philanthropies.
Runway event tickets are $100–$250; reservations for the dinner start at $650.
